10 Jan

I got an email the other day.

It made me realize that at this time next year, I will be registering Ella for kindergarten.

Thankfully, I have a year to get used to this idea, then another 6 months before she actually STARTS kindergarten.  But, coming from the mom who freaked out when I saw the “first day of school” page in the baby book (before she was born!), thinking of her starting kindergarten might require some therapy.  Chocolate maybe.  Or cheesecake.

525,600 moments so dear…

It’s a new year!

Holy crap.  What happened to 2010?  Or 2007?

My blog was neglected in the last few months of 2010 and I feel badly about that.  We got very busy, very sick and things were very overwhelming for a while.

A quick summary of the end of 2010:

  • Ella had so much fun at school & in dance class!  She adjusted SEAMLESSLY to being the most amazing big sister ever and I couldn’t be more proud of her.
  • We took Ella to the pediatric allergist in early November.  They did a skin prick test (all over her back!) for environmental allergies & we learned that she is allergic to cats, cat pelt, dogs, mice and a specific type of fall mold.  She also had blood work done for food allergies (still allergic to eggs, but allowed to do a food challenge next year; not allowed anywhere near peanuts).  Ella was also allowed to get her first flu shot!
  • Ella developed a very nasty internal sty on her left eye in November.  Antibiotics took care of it, only to return to the doctor the next week for severe breathing difficulties.  After several days of inhaler treatments & oral steroids, she has been much better.  But we’ve definitely seen increased signs of asthma in her and I’m hoping this doesn’t effect her ability to play sports in the future.
  • Right around Christmas, Ella got a vomiting sickness which she then shared with me and Audrey.  Lucky us!  Ella and I seemed to get over it rather quickly, but poor Audrey’s been hanging on to it for several days.
  • Audrey had a cough.  Then her cough became a high fever with breathing difficulty that ultimately landed us at Children’s Hospital for a week.  She was diagnosed with MRSA pneumonia and bacteremia.  She was on oxygen and IV antibiotics at the hospital for a week.  She had surgery to insert a broviac tube so that we could continue her IV antibiotics at home for 2 weeks.  The Monday after Christmas, she had surgery to remove the broviac because she is doing great now!  We are all so thankful to everyone at Children’s Hospital for all of their knowledge, kindness and patience.
  • We got some new furniture!  We FINALLY got a dining room table.  It’s so wonderful to be able to eat at a real table, have family dinner conversation. We also got a new bed & dresser.  We got a queen size bed (a move up from our double!) with a headboard and everything.  It’s like we’re grown ups!  We are still in the process of reorganizing our house a bit to accommodate all of our needs, but I think the end result will be great!

As far as 2011 goes, I’m looking forward to MANY things!

  • We leave for Disney World in a few weeks!
  • My brother gets married in April!
  • My parents have their 30th anniversary in June
  • My dad turns 60 in July
  • Ella turns 4 & Audrey will be 1
  • Dave turns 30 in September
  • My grandpa will be 80 in November

I’m also looking forward to playing with the girls outside & enjoying the summer this year.  It was hard last summer to enjoy anything when it was so hot outside & I was pregnant.  I’m hoping to go to a few Cards games with the girls & Dave this summer.

Mostly, I’m looking forward to having a healthy, happy family.  I feel so lucky that I get to stay home with my girls everyday.  Being with them and watching them grow, learn, discover, explore, love, create…I don’t know if you could ask for a better year or time more well spent than experiencing every day through the eyes of your kids.  Even though every day won’t be an exciting adventure, even though we’ll have rainy days & sick days, even though Daddy will be gone for work sometimes, I want to make sure that I enjoy every single moment that I can with my family this year.  My time as my girls’ hero, as a snuggle buddy, as a woman in her 20s…they all come to an end much sooner than I’m prepared to admit.  So I want to savor every laugh, every hug, every “I love you so much”, every little giggle that I can.

Feel safe knowing that if my blog is neglected this year, it is because I am busy taking in everything I can from life.

Happy 2011!
