Happy Birthday, Dave!

30 Sep

Hope your 27th birthday is the most fantastic one yet!

Love from,

Your girls :-D

Oh Beautiful for Spacious Skies…

29 Sep

27 Sep

I just thought I’d let everyone know that ever since I blogged about the sidewalk being blocked by the minivan, it hasn’t been blocking the sidewalk anymore!  Maybe it’s a coincidence or maybe my neighbors somehow read my blog.  Hmmm…

20 more things…

26 Sep

1. I love to go shopping, but I’m not good at spending money.  I love to look at all the things I’d buy if I were loaded!

2. I hate being cold.  I’d much rather be hot and sweaty and gross than cold.  Brrr.

3. I’ve always wanted to learn Italian.  As I get older, I think of other languages I’d like to learn: Japanese, Spanish, etc.

4. I know how to cook (sort of) but I’d rather not.  Good thing Dave likes to cook!  But I love to bake, and I’m obsessed with my KitchenAid mixer!

5. I won a weekly poetry contest on a website once.

6. I pick up litter when I’m walking with Abby & Ella.

7. I’d rather be pretty good at a lot of things than really great at just a couple.  Maybe that’s why I like to play lots of instruments?

8. I like to perform, but always in groups.  I loved being in the chorus of musicals in middle school & high school.  I love playing in bands, but not solo performances.

9. I always loved Eeyore the most.

10. If I were going to get a tattoo (but I’m not), I’d get the Dave Matthews Band firedancer.  Not sure where.

11. I have to have the TV on to fall asleep.  My college roommates had to adapt to this.  (Thanks girls!)

12. I really miss playing soccer.  I’m not in shape for it right now, but I’d love to play in adult league.  I secretly hope Ella plays soccer & loves it as much as I do.

13. I sneeze in pairs.

14. I think the word “goblin” is really funny.  And anything that sounds like it: “cobbler”, “gobbler”, etc.

15. In middle school, my dad was my band director.  I don’t think it made me practice more, unfortunately.

16. I didn’t have my first kiss until 15, and I’m okay with that.  I was always pretty shy, anyway.

17. I didn’t pass my driver’s test until the third time.  The first time I failed because the officer giving me the test had “already met [his] quota for the month”.  I guess that’s what I get for being born towards the end of February.

18. I’m not a fan of Valentine’s Day.  But I love Christmas & Fourth of July!

19. I really like hanging out with my brothers & I’m glad that we get along so well.

20. The first song I ever sang was “Take Me Out to the Ball Game”.  I think this is awesome, & I hope I can teach Ella to sing this song, too!

20 Things…

18 Sep

So I’ve read a couple of blogs where people have listed 100 things about themselves.  I don’t have time to sit down and think of 100 things, so I will do 20 for now!

1. I’m not a very good parker.  And I back out slowly in tight parking lots.  Be patient with me.

2. I have a “J” problem…I’ve dated 4 guys whose name starts with “J”  (And, okay, I married one!).  Most of them are trumpet players!  Yikes.

3. I watch the show “Greek” and it makes me miss college.  Not that my college experience was like that, but I still miss it.

4. I hate snakes.  A whole lot.

5. I really want to be on the Amazing Race.  I think it would be so much fun…like a world-wide obstacle course!  They haven’t picked me…yet!

6. I hate the song “Oh What a Beautiful Mornin’” because my 2nd grade teacher (who was really mean) made us sing it every day.

7. I LOVE peanut butter, but not peanut butter cookies or having nuts in most things.  I can eat nuts, but just alone.  Not in my ice cream or on my brownies.

8. My friends from high school & I used to watch Mystery Science Theater 3000 on Friday nights.  Yup.  We also danced around the house to “Going the Distance” by Cake and “Birdhouse in Your Soul” & “Particle Man” by They Might Be Giants.  I’m pretty sure I remember specific dance moves.

9. I used to write poetry.  I haven’t in a long time…but I will again someday!

10. I refuse to swim in lakes or rivers.  I will swim in pools or the ocean.  And I love waves!

11. I love roller coasters and rides, but now I get really sick on them.  Hooray for water parks, I can still handle slides!

12. When I was really young (early elementary school) I was embarrassed about my middle name.  Now I love it & I don’t care if no one can pronounce it.

13. I always get excited checking the mail everyday in case there is something for me!

14. I can’t wait for Ella to be involved in something so I can go watch!  I’m going to be the awesom-est soccer mom ever!  No mini-van, though.

15. I think homemade Rice Krispy treats are amazing.  Yummy.

16. When I was younger, I wanted to be an actress, a veterinarian, and a ballerina.

17. I don’t like knick-knacks.  Or clutter.

18. I bruise easily.  Then I can’t remember what happened.

19. My brothers used to play barbies with me.  And I used to play Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles with them.  Until we lost a couple down the vent.  Sorry, Mom!

20. All of my major injuries seem to happen to my left side.  Left knee surgery.  Broke my left pinky.  My left eye is the bad one.  Dislocated a toe on my left foot.

Did you learn anything about me?

Here we go again…

17 Sep

I’m pretty sure Ella is teething again.  Ugh.  I know it’s not fun for her.  It’s also not fun for me.  She is crabby and clingy and doesn’t sleep as well.  Tylenol all around!!

We had a lovely (read: RAINY) trip to Kirksville.  Brianne’s marching band got cancelled, so we ate with the family in Ottumwa.  Driving back in the dark, monsoon-y weather on scary 2 lane highways was extremely tense.  I think I left some permanent fingernail marks in our leather seats.  Saturday was more rain, but we were able to visit Granny (Great Granny for Ella!) and we had a huge family dinner Saturday night.  Sunday was more family fun.  Ella had a blast with her cousin Tyler, playing in boxes!  On Monday, while Dave was giving presentations to classes, Ella visited some of the music professors!  She was such a hit, even though she was a bit shy.  At first.  We finally made it home Monday evening.  Whew.  Long but happy trip!

Here is my diagram of annoying for the day:  Ella, Abby & I go on walks in the morning.  We usually go on a certain route that is less prone to traffic.  We take sidewalks when available.  If you are lucky enough to have sidewalks in your neighborhood, please don’t block them!  Almost every day, we have to walk AROUND a minivan that has parked in the middle of the sidewalk.  This house has a 2 car garage and a large driveway.  There are no other cars in the driveway.  Why are you blocking the sidewalk???  Get out of the way!!!  Argh!!!

Is my baby an old lady at heart?

11 Sep

I’ve been trying to determine if Ella is an “old soul”.

She loves Wheel of Fortune.  She claps and claps at the wheel spinning and people clapping.  So funny.

She rocks out to most music, but I’ve found that in the car, her favorites are the Oldies Station (recently she completely cracked me up clapping and singing to Johnny B. Goode) and Miles Davis.

Her favorite foods are oatmeal, yogurt and cottage cheese.

She LOVES dogs.  Maybe this doesn’t really count, but most old ladies love dogs, right?

She takes 2 naps a day.

She falls asleep on even the shortest car rides.

There are probably more reasons I haven’t yet determined.

Other Ella news:

She got a pretty good bump on the head the other day…from who knows what.

She is getting her teeth brushed now!  All 4 of them.  She actually does pretty well with it, not too much biting!

Her fine motor skills are improving.  She can put the coins in the piggy bank all by herself!  And she loves loves loves books right now.  Not necessarily to sit and read them with us, but she looks at them by herself and flips pages back and forth.

Daddy taught her how to bat her eyes.  You’ll probably regret that later, honey!!  Hehehe.

We are off to Kirksville this weekend to visit Papa & Nana, Granny, Trish, Erick & Tyler, Grandpa and up to Iowa to see Brianne in marching band!  Hopefully our schedule works out in a different town!  We’ll be back on Monday!

Weekend update…

8 Sep

We had a lovely weekend, despite being rained on most of Friday.

Friday, Ella & I went to the Transportation Museum with my grandpa & 2 relatives from England!  It was fun riding the trolley and seeing the inside of some historic trains.  Ella loved playing with the toy trains and climbing the stairs in the automobile building.

Friday night was girls night!  Hooray for Sappington Lounge Cocktails and Sara, Annette & Becky!  And Travis for driving us.

Saturday, Macy’s had a great sale, so Sara & I had fun picking out new stuff!  Who doesn’t love buy 2 get 2 bras free?

On Sunday, Dave & I played paintball with the pWnhACKzORz in the morning while Ella spent time with Grandma!  We visited our English relatives in the afternoon & then had some yummy BWW for dinner.

Also, Dave & I have finished Prison Break Season 3 (good) and are working our way through season 2 of Heroes.  We watched Where in the World is Osama bin Laden? last night.  Comed-umentary.  Pretty funny, and enlightening.  Recommended.

I’m going to password protect the blog after this post, so please email me if you would like to read the blog in the future!  Thanks!

Things I don’t understand:

1.  Vegetarians who smoke.

2.  Dog owners who don’t pick up their dog’s poo.

3.  How one could possibly use a turn signal incorrectly.

4.  Math.  Blech.

5.  Beauty pageants.  Especially those for children.

6.  Most Republicans.  (Please, leave Sara Palin’s daughter alone though.)

7.  Spam, spyware, adware, viruses, phishing…OMG.  Just stop it.

8.  Jack Black.  I’m sure he’s a nice person, I just don’t think he’s that funny.

9.  Certain Olympic sports.  Yes, ping pong takes skill…but is it really a sport?  Does it really take great athletic prowess?

10.  Clowns.

There are so many more.
