A funny thing…

30 Jun

As Ella has gotten older, it has been so much fun to watch her learn new things.  It seems in the past couple of months, however, that she has exploded with cute & funny new antics!

Some of my favorites:

- Crawling, standing, almost walking

- Clapping!  This is especially cute because she claps when people on TV clap.

- Waving.  Though not on demand.

- Dancing & shaking her head

- Splashing in the tub

- Giving and blowing kisses…so sweet!

- Saying “Baby”

There are so many things she learns each day, it’s hard to keep up with her sometimes.  I know all mothers feel this way, I just have to remind myself every day to live in the moment so I don’t miss anything!

Over the past year, I have learned about a lot of baby gear, etc.  Here are a few of my favorites.

1. gDiapers!  Environmentally friendly, not as much laundry as regular cloth and they keep the explosive poop in!  Hooray!

2. Baby swings.  There were times when this was the only thing that kept us sane.

3. Chicco Travel System.  The carseat base was super easy to install and the stroller is easy to fold up.  We traveled with it in the airport/airplane and it was no hassle at all!

4. A good pediatrician.  I love our pediatrician, even though we had to switch to her when Ella was about 7 months old.  It’s a long story why we switched, perhaps in another post.  But a good pediatrician can be your best friend, especially if you have a baby with a problem such as eczema (like Ella).

Oh, and one last thing Ella has learned recently…

A busy week & some pet peeves…

27 Jun

This week has been super busy for us!  I have been trying to put together Ella’s birthday invitations (I’m making them) and finding everything I need has not been easy!  I’m going today to the greatest scrapbooking store ever, Archiver’s, to get the finishing touches and put them together.  I hope they turn out as cute as they are in my head!

Ella’s 11 month (yikes!) pictures were taken this week, and they will be posted on our other blog page soon!  Look for them!  She was less cooperative this time, so be advised.

We also got our new garage door on Wednesday.  It is SO NICE to have an automatic garage door that we don’t have to open ourselves!  Our old was was pretty much a POS from the beginning, and getting a new one was inevitable.  We used the Overhead Door Company, and I highly recommend them.  Our experience with them was 5,000% better than our experience with Home Depot installing our front door last year.  U.G.H.  I don’t even want to talk about it.

Driving around town trying to get Ella’s invitations together has reminded me of a few pet peeves.

1. DRIVERS.  Please, use your blinkers and use them correctly.  Your headlights MUST be on when it is raining, EVEN WHEN IT IS DAY TIME.  Do not block up the parking lot/lanes to get a closer spot.  If a light turns red, that means you cannot go: Your turn is over.  I have no need to hear and/or feel your music…turn it down!  Drive the speed limit, it is there for a reason.  So many more…ugh.

2. UNFRIENDLY STORE CLERKS.  I will not buy anything from you if you are rude to me.  I will go somewhere else or I will leave and come back another day when you are not working.

3. FIREWORKS.  Don’t get me wrong, I actually LOVE fireworks.  I planned my wedding near the Fourth of July b/c I love them.  But HONESTLY.  There is no reason to begin shooting off fireworks (which is illegal here, anyway), at 10 pm, in the middle of June. Or at least just do sparklers or something not loud.  Geeze.

Just to end on a happy note, here is a cute picture of Ella Kate!

How I feel about…

24 Jun

I’m going to touch on a couple of things about which I feel passionately.  These may or may not be surprising things about me, but they are a good essence of who I am.

First:  Yes, I am “still” breastfeeding my baby.  She is still a baby, even if she is almost 1.  Even though it was quite a struggle at first, nursing has been fantastic for both Ella & me.  Besides all of her health benefits, breastfeeding has helped me lose baby weight.  I know it doesn’t help everyone, but it has helped me and I am grateful.

No, I don’t plan on cutting Ella off any time soon.  She hasn’t completely figured out use of a cup yet (and yes, we do try every day).   Plus, there is absolutely no reason for me to stop!  The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends breastfeeding for at least a year, and the World Health Organization for at least two

I don’t have an exact date for when we will stop, but it really shouldn’t bother anyone!  I have become adept and unafraid of nursing in public, partially thanks to a couple of support groups.  If you are someone who gets freaked out at someone nursing in public or if you are just curious, here are a few tips from the other side.

1. In almost every state, breastfeeding mothers are protected by law in public places.  So you can’t scare us by calling the mall cops.

2. If you have a question about breastfeeding (that is not offensive), just ask the mother!  More than likely, she would be happy to answer questions rather than be stared at from afar.

3. If it REALLY bothers you that much, you can put a blanket over your head.

Second: Yes, I play video games.  Mostly Halo.  Some Rock Band, Guitar Hero, and random other things.  I enjoy games like Splinter Cell and Hitman, but only if I’m watching.  This does not make me more violent or prone to outbursts.  Dave and I usually play Halo after Ella has gone to bed, and we play more for the social aspect than anything else.  We play with friends from college, my brother, and friends from drum corps.

The pWnhACKzORz are awesome and nerdy.  We do get together in real life and hang out, and I’m so excited for 4 new pWnhACKzORz to move to town this year!

We have matching symbols.  We wear cowboy hats for Western Wednesday.  Undoubtedly, we have heard all witty comments regarding our fabulous symbols, so there is really no need to reiterate your jealousy.

Also, there are 3 girls in our “clan” (we’ve been playing together since Halo 2).  None of us is fat, ugly or stupid.  We are all hot and intelligent women.  We just happen to play Halo.  We do not need 13 year old boys to request our friendship, we can’t go to the prom with you, we will not make you a sandwich and we are probably better than you.

A few things…

23 Jun

In order to get myself writing a bit, I thought I’d share a few things about myself.

1. I don’t like odd numbers.  I always increase/decrease volumes, time, etc. in increments of 2.

2. I LOVE Dave Matthews.  A lot.  A whole lot.

3. I’ve never really tasted a beer that I liked.  Blech.

4. I still pull the crust off of my sandwiches.

5. Target is awesome.

Edit: 6.  Sara, you’re right.  I need one more to make it an even number!  Welcome to St. Louis, pWnhACKzORz!!  I will write more about the pWnhACKzORz in a later post.

Ella & I have a busy day today!  We are preparing for her birthday party (sniff!) in the next few weeks! Hopefully this week, I will be able to load pictures into the posts and share some of the wonderful scenes of my day!

Getting to Know You…

18 Jun

I think it’s inevitable that a first blog post be awkward.

Short version of an introduction:  My name is Becca, I am 26.  I am married to a fabulous man (David).  I have a degree is Music Education, but I am staying at home with my baby girl, Ella Kate.  I decided to blog about our activities and all of the funny (and not so funny) things we encounter.  I hope to post lots of pictures of the things we do.

Welcome to our journey!
